1. Behaviour identification
The behavioural intervention to modify, reduce or remove a behaviour defined as “problematic”, “wrongly adapted”, “interfering”, etc., should be justified by its negative influence in the development of the person’s daily activities, which causes a sensitive decrease of his/her quality of life.
On many occasions, it is possible the affected person presents more than one behaviour that is the object of intervention. In this situation, we should study, in each case, the convenience to treat more than one behaviour at the same time or, on the contrary, to intervene just in one of them, according to pre-establish priority criteria. In this sense, we have to consider the following priority order, regarding the effects of the behaviour:
- Severe physical damage on the person himself/herself
- Severe physical damage on other people
- Environment destruction...
